Spoon Carving Starter Set – Affordable, High-Quality Tools
If you're just getting started with spoon carving and need a budget-friendly set of reliable tools, this kit is an excellent choice to safely get you started. These aren't disposable tools - they are built to last. While you may eventually want to upgrade to hand-forged tools with better edge retention, these will serve you well for many years to come.
Although factory-made rather than hand-forged, we confidently believe these tools are among the best available at this price point, without compromising on quality or performance.
All tools if purchased individually come to £131.50, so this set includes a £11.50 saving. If you want to add a sheath to the axe, you have the option to add for £30.00. This is highly recommended to keep the razor sharp edge, sharp!
The set includes:
- Bahco Hatchet – If bought elsewhere, these axes will arrive blunt. From us, these are reground with flat bevels and honed in the Woodsmith workshop to a razor-sharp edge, making it an ideal starter axe for carving (optional leather sheath available).
- Mora 120 Carving Knife – A fantastic all-round carving knife, made from durable carbon steel, making it slightly better at retaining its edge than the laminated carbon version.
- Mora 164 Spoon/Hook Knife – Available for both left- and right-handed users - select your preferred grind using the drop down box above. Eventually you'll need both, irregardless of your handedness, but to start, you can do the majority of hollowing with the grind that corresponds to your handedness and cuts towards you, e.g. right grind for right handed users.
- Silky Pocketboy 170mm - A good all round saw with medium teeth (10 Teeth Per 30mm) - makes it efficient for cutting billets to size before creating blanks, but also fine enough to make stop cuts to an appropriate degree of precision.
