Woodsmith Pole Lathe Kit
Please note: This kit is made-to-order and typically ships within 7-10 days of placing your order, it is not available for next day delivery.
About the Kit:
This Woodsmith Pole Lathe Kit provides you with the essential timber and metal components needed to craft your own pole lathe. Designed primarily for turning green wood, the pole lathe is traditionally used to make items like chair components, rounders bats, and kitchenware.
What's Inside:
- Milled softwood for the A-frame legs.
- Planed hardwood (typically beech or ash) for the bed, heads, wedges, and more.
- Metal hardware: includes ground and polished metal centres, coach bolts, and screws.
- 8mm shock cord and 5mm drive cord.
- Pre-made treadle, crafted from a natural ash fork.
Please Note:
- This is not a quick assembly kit. You'll need basic woodworking tools and skills to make accurate mortises and tenons. The build typically takes about two days.
- For detailed assembly guidance, Mike Abbott’s book, "Green Woodworking – Working with Wood the Natural Way," is recommended. Although it's currently out of print, sourcing a second-hand copy will be invaluable for the building process. Reach out to us if you're having trouble finding one.
- The kit does not include a springy pole or side poles for the shock cord.
- You'll receive your kit in three distinct packages, and basic written instructions will be provided.
Required Tools:
To complete this kit, you'll need tools such as saws (panel, cross-cut, and ripping), drill bits and augers, a smoothing plane, cordless drill, carpenter's square, chisels, mallet, clamps, and a vice. This list is indicative and not exhaustive.
Shipping costs will be determined and presented as "Quoted Shipping" during the checkout process.
