Offset Prickers are essential for marking tenons through pre-drilled mortice holes in traditional timber framing.
After drilling a mortice hole, the tenon is marked using the pricker, indicating where to drill - 4mm closer to the tenon's shoulder than the mortice's peg hole centre. This technique ensures that when the joint is assembled and the peg is inserted, the offset holes pull the joint tight, improving its strength and durability.
These are available in three sizes: 3/4", 7/8" and 1" (please select from the drop down box). All variants are approx. 30cm / 12" in length.
Windy Smithy has offered these tools since 2001, based on a design by Steve Lawrence and the late Jake Jackson.
