About Wetterlings
Wetterlings Axe Forge, the oldest smithy in Sweden, was founded in 1880 by Sven Axel Wetterling. Initially located in Bäckefors Mill, the forge moved to Storvik in 1885, benefiting from its proximity to iron, steel, and hydropower. The forge has a rich history of manufacturing high-quality axes, broad-axes, and bark shovels for the forest industry.
Wetterlings became renowned for its innovative techniques and modernization efforts led by Otto Wetterling and later by Magnus Liljeblad and the Jungefors family. Despite challenges from technological advancements and global competition, Wetterlings maintained its commitment to traditional craftsmanship.
Today, under the ownership of Adam and Daniel Brånby, Wetterlings continues to produce premium axes using time-honoured methods. The company focuses on sustainability, banning unnecessary chemicals and emphasising the skill of its craftsmen. Wetterlings remains a symbol of Swedish industrial heritage, dedicated to preserving and passing on its legacy to future generations.
