The Tom Thackray Travisher is a hand-crafted tool, produced in small batches by a skilled chair maker Steve Langton. Designed for shaping recessed areas like chair seats, it is incredibly sturdy and reliable, offering a reassuringly solid feel in hand. Tom Thackray originally crafted this tool due to the difficulty in finding quality traditional tools that perform as they should.
With a low cutting angle, similar to a wooden spokeshave, it glides smoothly over the wood, ensuring a chatter-free cut. The beech body measures 290mm (11 1/2") and houses a 5" cutting iron, which is easily removable for sharpening.
