Svante Djarv Beating Gouges are designed for heavy-duty carving work, crafted from a rougher material for enhanced durability. These gouges feature brass ring reinforcements on the handle, making them significantly tougher than Svante's standard gouges. They are built to withstand heavy use and can take beatings from a wooden mallet with ease.
Hand forged and handmade - these chisels are a delight to hold and put to good work. Made from high quality tool steel, these gouges will hold an exceptional edge.
We offer two types of Beating Gouges (please select from the drop down box above):
- Straight Beating Gouge 40-35
- Bent Beating Gouge 40-35
The bevel shape of each gouge is denoted by a diameter (mm) and an approximate width (mm), with the bevel shape forming part of a full circle. The number marked on the gouge represents the diameter of this circle, while the width is measured across the gouge. Both bent and straight gouges are 40mm (diameter) and 35mm (approximate width).
About the Maker - Svante Djarv Hantverk AB:
Svante Djarv Hantverk is a family business based in Avesta, Sweden, that specialises in creating hand-forged wood carving tools. Drawing inspiration from the Swedish metal-working tradition, they've built a broad range of tools, often in collaboration with experienced woodsmiths and craftspeople. Each year, they produce about 4,000 tools and knives, ranging from carving knives to axes, and they also have a unique tool line for children. Every tool is delivered ready for use, crafted from high-quality steel and complemented with handles made from Swedish hardwoods like elm and ash. Woodsmith has had a long-standing relationship with Svante and Elsa Djarv for over a decade, and we're proud to be the UK's largest stockist of their tools.
