The Stihl Flat File is is the perfect sharpening tool for keeping your scythes and chainsaw blades sharp. This high-quality file is made from durable steel and has a 3/8" width, making it compatible with most chainsaws. The file also comes with a plastic case for easy storage.
To use the Stihl Flat File on chainsaws, simply insert the file into the saw blade and stroke it back and forth. The file will remove the dull metal and sharpen the teeth of the blade. Once the blade is sharpened, simply remove the file and store it in the plastic case.
Please note, this file comes without a handle but if you need one, we sell replacement file handles here.
It is also very useful to have a flat file in your scythe kit. You can use it for:
- Filing out small areas of damage to the blade edge, following up with a sharpening stone
- Filing out small areas of damage and unevenness in the blade edge prior to standard peening
- Filing out larger areas of damage and completing the repair with peening.
- Reshaping the edge bevel to restore very thickened blades prior to peening, or in lieu of peening on blades used for rougher mowing.
