Shock Cord for Pole Lathe provides the return stroke on treadle operated pole lathes.
9' (2.75mm) of 8mm shock cord, enough to create a loop so the drive cord is connected to double cord thickness.
We've recently changed from 10mm shock cord to 8mm and increased the length. This because we think if you double-up 8mm shock cord this gives an improved return action.
When first learning to use the pole lathe I did much of my practicing in the garage. During the winter months where there was very little space (the MG Midget may have had something to do with it). I simply screwed a couple of ring hooks into wooden roof joists and tied a length of shock cord between them, tied the treadle cord to the middle and hey presto!
Shock Cord for Pole Lathe is a great alternative if you lack the space or the inclination to set up a traditional pole. If you don't have roof joists, fix a couple of poles to the side of your lathe and tie this shock cord between them to provide the 'return stroke'.
