The Morakniv Hook Knife 164 is a tool designed to remove wood from the bowl part of a spoon, recently improved with advice from Swedish slöjd masters Jögge Sundqvist and Beth Moen. The single-edged blades have been newly optimised to work much more smoothly over the inside of a spoon or small bowl. The back of the 164 is not sharp which allows you to push the blade with your fingers from the back, and the 164 blade has the tightest curve of any Morakniv hook knife.
These knives have one sharp edge, available in the following grinds (please select from the drop down box above):
Regardless of your dominant hand, its always better to have both a right and a left grind hook knife. It will give you many more grasp options and make carving safer. However, if you're just starting out: right-handed users will mainly draw a right ground knife towards themselves and the left ground knife away from them. Vice-versa for left-handed users. Perfectly complemented with the Morakniv Carving Knife 106.
To protect the cutting edge from damage and you from accidental injury, the 164 now optionally comes with a simple but ingeniously designed edge protector. Made out of Swedish vegetable tanned leather manufactured locally with cowhides from the region. The 164 is available to order both with a protective leather sheath or just the knife on its own.
We also sell a set including both left and right grinds, which saves you a few pounds than if bought alone. Both sets similarly available with sheath or without. Please note only the knife with the sheath is supplied in a box.
