The Dvardala axe is the latest axe in Hultafors premium axe range, an ideal companion for hunting and forest activities. This versatile tool combines several different axe types, making it perfect for a day in the forest where you might face a wide range of challenges. It features the same type of head as the Hultafors Åby axe but with a shorter handle (440mm or 17 inches). This compact size makes it easier to carry, for example in a backpack, and more manageable when working close to your body.
The axe is versatile and able to cover a range of work such as building shelters, preparing fire material, and other campsite tasks. Thanks to its well-proportioned hand notch and a semi-straight edge with a flat, wide grind, you can grip around the head for maximum control, and due to the fkat grind could even do some light carving work. The edge’s flat sides allow the axe to rest firmly against the workpiece when cutting along a piece of wood, yet it’s curved enough for light forestry work like clearing paths or fire lines. The thicker cheeks provide good splitting capabilities for chopping firewood.
The Dvardala axe is a great tool for hunters and can also be used for processing game in the field. Hand-forged in Hults Bruk, a tradition since 1697, the axe head weighs approximately 0.7 kg and is made of Swedish CO2-neutral axe steel. The semi-straight edge has a Scandinavian premium grind, polished to be razor-sharp and ready for use.
The axe features a curved, narrow handle with a pronounced end knob for a secure grip. The included sheath is crafted in Sweden from hides of Swedish cows, manufactured with great care for the environment and animal welfare. The leather is vegetable-tanned full-grain, offering excellent durability and a beautiful aging process.
Named after Dvardala, an old name for the forest area just north of Hults Bruk where the Kolmården Forest begins, this axe pays homage to a region known for its excellent hunting of wild game and wild boar. From Borgar Mountain in Dvardala, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the area. Woodsmith visited this in our latest trip to Sweden in July 2024.
