The relatively small edge and medium sweep of the Hans Karlsson Straight Carving Gouge 25-22 makes it great for starting the hollowing of small projects such as kuksas.

Hans Karlsson has his own reference system to describe the sweep (curvature) of a tools edge; in this case 25 is the curve of a circle designated by the radius measured in millimetres.  22 is the length of the cutting edge in mm from corner to corner.

The blade is made from high quality ball bearing steel (SS2258) so will take and hold a phenomenal edge.  Hardened to 60 - 62 Rockwell

Bevel ground to approx. 25 degrees.

Total length 240mm (9.5") including a 140mm (5") handle.

The lightly oiled handle is made from locally grown Swedish ash or elm and is very comfortable in the hand.
