Gränsfors Bruk Splitting Wedge
The Gränsfors Bruk Splitting Wedge is crafted for those particularly stubborn logs that don't easily give in. With its unique forged twist design, grooved poll, bevelled corners and a hardened tip - it's not just any wedge, but is optimised for the most effective splitting. Whether you're dealing with challenging firewood, knotty or cross-grained logs or looking to split larger diameter and length timbers to craft fencing rails, this wedge is your tool of choice. When paired with a sledgehammer or a splitting maul that possesses a specially hardened poll, its efficacy is increased. Sometimes, it may be necessary to use several wedges in parallel. The Splitting Wedge is used in conjunction with the Splitting Maul which, with its weight and strong poll with bevelled corners, is suitable for striking a wedge.
Warning: Do not use an ordinary axe as a wedge or sledgehammer. It is not made to withstand the force and may therefore become deformed. Remember that there is always a risk in striking steel against steel. A fragment of steel could fly off and damage your eye, for example. It is therefore advisable to wear safety goggles and protective clothing. Make sure that the wedge and the corners of the maul’s poll are kept bevelled.
Specifications:
- Edge & Weight: The edge measures 45mm (1 3/4") with the wedge weighing in at 1.6kg (3.5lbs).
- Poll: The poll of the wedge has ground edges for added efficiency.
- Protection: Each wedge is accompanied by a vegetable tanned leather sheath for protection and longevity.
- Included: Every wedge comes with the Gränsfors Bruk Axe Book, a guide into the world of axes and wedges. Plus, a 20-year forging guarantee stands as a testament to the product's premium quality.
About Gränsfors Bruk:
For more than 100 years, Gränsfors Bruk AB has built a business upon handcrafted axes and axe expertise, with a focus on quality and environmental responsibility. When it comes to the quality and feel of the axes, this is reflected in the experience and skill of the individual craftsman. Each axe is signed with the smith’s initials as a guarantee of quality.
The company is located in the Swedish village of Gränsfors in northern Hälsingland. The forge sits at the heart of the village and you can hear the rhythmic pounding as you approach, a sound we always take pleasure from when we visit!
We are lucky to be one of the few retailers of Gränsfors Bruk axes in the UK, which has been based on a long standing relationship between our small family business and their forge. We like to think that our close ties to the forge and the alignment in ethos between our two companies make us a knowledgeable, premium purveyor of their world class tools. If you have any questions at all in any product in the Gränsfors range - please reach out to our friendly team and we'll be more than happy to help.
