For woodworkers - especially chairmakers - a sliding bevel that locks tightly is essential. Most inexpensive bevels can easily be knocked off their settings, which can ruin a project if the angles are even slightly off. The Crucible Sliding Bevel solves this problem with a locking mechanism that holds so securely, it won’t budge without deliberate adjustment.
The bevel uses a patent-pending locking system based on the hinge from Crucible's Type 2 Dividers. It tightens and loosens with a standard flat-head screwdriver and allows precise control over both the blade's rotation and sliding movement.
How it Works:
The screw near the blade controls its rotation, locking it in place or setting the tension so it can rotate with effort.
The screw near the handle adjusts how the blade slides in its slot.
These adjustments can be used independently or together, allowing the blade to lock firmly while sliding to a new position or lock the slide while keeping rotational movement.
This dual-control design gives woodworkers flexibility for various tasks without unnecessary complexity. It’s simple to use and becomes intuitive with just a few minutes of practice.
Specifications:
Blade Length: 4"
Blade Thickness: 3/32"
Handle Dimensions: 11/16” x 3/4” x 4-3/8”
Weight: 10 ounces
Material: Alloy steel blade with Chicago screws for low-profile, secure adjustments
Inspired by early bevel designs, the Crucible Sliding Bevel is machined and assembled in Kentucky by Machine Time. Its sturdy construction and practical design make it ideal for woodworking tasks where accuracy matters.
