Ashley Iles Ferret is a tool to create the inside of a captive ring on a pole lathe.

Greenwoodworker Mike Abbott asked Ashley Iles to produce this tool to form the inner part of a captive ring. Famously featured on his babies rattles and described in his first book 'Green Woodworking - Working with Wood the Natural Way'. Sadly, now out of print.

This tool cuts (or rather scrapes) on both sides to cut right and left handed.  The outer shape of a captive ring is created first with a skew chisel.
