With its shallow sweep the Ashley Iles Carving Gouge 1"x47 is typically used for the final stages of wood removal.

A no. 47 gentle sweep, gently curved gouge leaves very shallow tool marks. Perfect for the final finish to a project such as the inside of a medium - large wooden bowl.

The corners of the cutting edge are gently rounded to lessen the risk of marking the wood.

This is a tool best used as a pushing tool i.e. not with a mallet.

Made from high carbon steel.
